A couple of weeks ago I achieved a long standing ambition to attend a Flower Farming for Beginners day course at Green & Gorgeous. I knew this would be a great day but it far exceeded my expectations! I knew the plants and flowers would be wonderful but who knew that learning about irrigation methods and the different types of growing tunnels could be so fascinating! From the beginning to the end of the day both Rachel and Ash gave us so much information. I wanted to record everything they said! Walking around the growing fields really brought home the amount of planning and hard work that goes into their flower farming. In the teaching room surrounded by arrangements and dried flowers showed what can be done with the material grown and what wonderful arrangements Rachel makes.Their knowledge is enormous and the handouts and web links and follow up information following the course are just amazing. An additional day on propagation and growing on might be good for some people just getting into growing.Thank you also for the lifts from and back to the station which helped make the day so much less stressful as I didn't have to drive. I am already putting into practice ideas fro the day. Thank you so much for your inspiration and knowledge! Ros
Fabulous flowers, beautiful bouquets and on Saturdays on season there is fresh veg to buy too.
Farm gate sales with incredible range of seasonal flowers...
Rachel's work for our wedding two weeks ago was nothing short of wonderful, I could not be happier. Throughout the process, she was lovely to work with and always very honest about what she would be able to do, given the incredibly and unexpectedly hot UK summer. Both my trips to her farm were so enjoyable, and she carefully recorded our conversations and decisions, as well as walking me around to show me everything we discussed. When the day came - along with an unexpected downpour - she quickly changed our plan for a large flower arch over an outdoor ceremony, to two beautiful birch trees that could be used inside instead. She did this without any additional charge, although I'm sure transporting two trees to our venue came at an additional labour cost to her. All the flowers Rachel arranged for us were simply stunning, people were commenting on how exquisite the arrangements were all day. But my bouquet!! My bouquet was something magical - days later, I was still staring at it with googley eyes, not wanting to part with it. She is truly so talented. And she was kind enough to let us return her vases a few days later, so we could continue to enjoy the flowers the following day at a BBQ. All in all, just a perfect flower experience for us. Thank you Green and Gorgeous! Only wish we could do it all again :)
The arrangements that were provided were mostly lovely and according to brief. Partly, significant liberties were taken with the brief, despite availability of flowers that would have met it. The pew ends, one of the biggest items in the budget, were very disappointing. They consisted of mostly green leaves with the occasional flower in it. The white look hoped for was not achieved, and they were not so much pew ends as rather bunches of greenery with very long stems decorating the aisle. The wedding bouquet hardly differed in style or size from the flower girls' posies, yet was three times more expensive. The very morning after our wedding day, G&G called us at 10 a.m. and told us with no prior warning that all flower vases had to be collected within 90 minutes, which obviously did not leave us enough time to make arrangements to save the flowers. We had hoped to share and enjoy them a bit longer than 12 hours, for both the emotional value they represented to us and the significant investment we had made in them. We understand that G&G are going through a rough patch due to climate issues, but we wonder wether alienating the client by being unnecessarily lacking in respect is the way forward.
